Vaughn Benjamin and the Midnite Band taught the massive how to avoid the hype, they are straight forward and direct in their approach. As Mackeda Dread from the World Beat Center in San Diego says, “A Midnite a day will keep the Devil away”.
Midnite ascended upon the Valley Stage at about 6:30 pm Saturday evening, the Sun was shining off to the West while the audience embraced all the energy.Midnite show March 2 ilahbrate 114th Anniversary of the Battle of Adwa March 02, 1896, this show on August 13th will ilahbrate Emperor Menelik's Earthday which is on August 17th, this is a live shot from the show, photocrdits Jah I Tower Hail Up and Raspect to the Guyana Massive Jah Breeze Reggae hosting Midnite Battle of Menelik's Adwa celebration in Seattle, March 2, 2008, now we celebrating Menelik's Earthday which is August 17th on August 13th at Studio7, come forward and let's celebrate this great Emperor's Birth....We did and here is the picture of Midnite performing at the event, photocredits Jah I Tower The vibes was revitalized as the crowd came alive as the Midnite band kept a slow roots reggae tempo. Vaughn sang a few new songs from his recently released cd, “Midnite and Desmond Williams”, entitled, “Kayamagan”....the song that resonate with me is, “I chant”.
The set was for about 45 minutes, which is too short for Midnite, this is when they are starting to warm up. Midnite usually play for about 3 hours straight, so to be blessed with a third of their showcase left the seasoned Midnite Fan waiting for their next full performance.Midnite show March 2 ilahbrate 114th Anniversary of the Battle of Adwa March 02, 1896, this show on August 13th will ilahbrate Emperor Menelik's Earthday which is on August 17th, this is a live shot from the show, photocredits Jah I Tower This was not long behind when before they were off the stage there was an announcement about a San Francisco show on Monday night following the festival. Dezarie Review from a Male Fan in California

On Tuesday, April 29 I went to a reggae concert at the Miner’s Foundry located in Nevada City, CA. The artist who performed was Dezarie. Dezarie and her band members are from St. Croix. The style of reggae they perform is roots reggae. The keyboardist in the band, Ron Benjamin, also plays in Midnite. Midnite is another band from St. Croix that is very well known among reggae enthusiasts. Dezarie produces all of her lyrics and melodies. She has produced two albums and is about to release her third album called “Ease The Pain”. Dezarie is a very talented singer who has won an award as “Best New Female Reggae Artist” in 2001.
Sista Dezarie Roots Empress outta St. Croix Strenghtening the Seattle Massive Mind during her successful Seattle leg of the Eaze the Pain Tour, Saturday, April 26 at Studio 7, photocredits Jah I-Tower
The show began at 8 PM with the opening band Sista Kat from Nevada City, CA. Sista Kat is a local artist who got the crowd “warmed up” for Dezarie. Then a local DJ spun reggae beats for about an hour until Dezarie walked onto the stage at 11 Pm. As the music began the crowd started cheering and the room became filled with smoke. She played many songs from her new album “Gracious Mama Africa”. She also played many songs from her first album “FYA”. The crowd went wild as she began playing her most popular song “FYA. Then the showed ended around 12:45 AM.
I really enjoyed watching Dezarie perform. She has a very unique style that is unlike any other reggae artist I have seen perform. Her songs discussed topics about issues that anyone can relate too. Their music is very entertaining and Dezarie has an amazing voice. Her voice could be described as “enchanting”. I highly recommend this band for anyone who enjoys reggae.

THANKS TO ALL YOU CONSCIOUS WOMEN WHO CAME OUT TO SUPPORT YOUR SISTA AS SHE EMBARKS ON THIS SERIOUS MISSION IN THESE SERIOUS TIMES, SEATTLE MASSIVE, "STRENGHTEN YOUR MINDS" WITH JAH BREEZE REGGAE PRODUCTION, EVERYTIME

This photograph is copyrighted by Jah Breeze Graphics Greetings Massive in the Name of the Most High Creator, Omnipresent, Omnipotent, Omniscient....Haile Selassie I, Jah Rastafari. Dezarie the Roots Empress outta St. Croix came forward full force on Saturday, April 26th, 2008 at Studio Seven in Seattle and left her audience still “eazing the pain” in support of her new release, Eaze the Pain
Sista Dezarie, Set the Flames by request by Jah Breeze the promoter before she left the stage, after playing for close to three hours. Midnite is the only band out there who play such a long set list and it was no surprise since, Ron Benjamin was pumping the Bass. This was a spectacular show the crowd was very pleased with the Rastafari Livity that was exhibited in the house and established in Seattle as an eternal flame.
Sista Dezarie Roots Empress outta St. Croix Strenghtening the Seattle Massive Mind during her successful Seattle leg of the Eaze the Pain Tour, Saturday, April 26 at Studio 7, photocredits Jah I-TowerBefore Dezarie hit the stage, the Nyabinghi drums thump out the one, two ahdah(order) heartbeat Burru rhythm while the Coronation Rastafari Drummers chant out ancient irits(traditional Nyabinghi songs). This invocation help set the order and context for the rest of the Nite.
Once the St. Croix Roots Empress grace the stage with her elegant presence the audience draw nearer. Men, Women and Children all gather in one accord to strengthen their minds and heed the words of this contemporary female griot. One female audience member refer to her as a Black Ingel with sweet lyrics of wisdom. The house energy was definitely positive as she rides the soothing 100% Roots Reggae from St. Croix produced by the accomplished backing band where the Midnite guitar player, Edmund Fieulleteau, switched to live horns and the keyboard player(Ras L) and the Midnite bass player(Ron Benjamin) switched instruments on certain songs. I have never seen this done live in the history of reggae music. This is quite an accomplishment for the band and it let me realized that earlier reviews critical of the band on some online reggae forums was quite unjustified and people weren’t necessarily looking at the multi talented nature of these musicians. The drummer Dean Pond, drummed for culture and is Pressure producer on his debut cd. Ras L the keyboard player has produced Vaughn Benjamin on his cd, “Thru and True” and Jah Rubal, new release “Fire Chariot”, Ron Benjamin, the Bass player is the musical producer/director for Midnite and Dezarie
So massive hold a humble thought and watch the Roots Reggae Rasta Evolution unfold right in front of your own eyes, .emerging out of the Virgin Island. Who was it that said these impeccable lines, “Some will have eyes and will not see, Ears and will not hear, Mouths and cannot speak....in these perilous times.......”.Revelations
Dezarie keep a cool level vibes throughout her performance, even the hotta fyah lyrics was graceful and sultry that it didn’t had to hit you over head. The fyah was a fyah of purification the eternal flame of righteousness from the Roots Empress. I&I beseech you to check her out when she come forward to your city on her Eaze the Pain tour if you want to release the burden that is heavy on your load.

"DON'T MOVE OFF YOUR POSITION...RASTAMAN DON'T MOVE...DON'T MOVE BINGHI MAN...DON'T MOVE...WE COMING DREADER THAN DREAD, RASTA...WE ARE THE LIONS WE COMING DREAD, DREAD IN OUR WALK, NATTY DREAD IN OUR HEAD, STRAIGHT OUT OF JUDAH, RIGHT DOWN TO ZED...ADDIS ABABA.... CROWN THE KING"(Vaughn Benjamin our modern day griot and wordsmith...Blakka Sound Track 7, cd Unpolished, GO CHECK IT!!!!)

Well, Massive my heart is pleased with the Dezarie promotions, thus far. It looks like we could be in a sold out situation, again. The conscious women of Seattle has responded to the challenge and is purchasing their advance tickets like hot cakes. It is good to see the women is supporting Sista Dezarie as strong as ever.
So the weak heart ones really have to check themselves and know why they come to Reggae Shows in the first place. Question I&I asking....Is it to “strengthen your minds” by the singers and players of instruments? Or Is it to call attention to yourself?
This photograph is copyrighted by Jah Breeze Graphics I don’t know the answer, I guess, I will do a pole on an online forum soon come. Anyway, I have been impressed with the show of support that the women of Seattle are giving to the Roots Empress, Dezarie. We are looking forward to a blessed event with humble thoughts and manners, when Dezarie come forward to Studio Seven on Saturday, April 26th. “It is going to be a bright....bright...Sun shiny Day”, we give thanks and praises, Itinually.

Dezarie is a very powerful woman in her persona, lyrical and vocal ability. Sometimes this female militant strength is very discomforting for some women. Who are these ‘some’ women?. This is a seriously contemplative question. I guess we will see by who is in the audience on Saturday, April 26th at Studio Seven, when Dezarie presents her newest release cd, “Eaze the Pain” while she burns the fire of purification....the everlasting flames of liberation.
This is not a bad thing...this is an empowerment thing. It is not about race, creed or color....it is about righteousness, truth and rights. If you down with that philosophy, it means you are promoting 100% Roots Reggae from St. Croix.
Jah Breeze Reggae has distinguished itself as a community partner striving for authentic cultural representation in the promotional level of the Reggae Industry. We have collaborated with Seattle Reggae and Information Processing Services to chart a new course for the Reggae Community.
Ethiopian Princess Promise with the Roots Empress, Dezarie...This photograph is copyrighted by Jah Breeze Graphics, photocredits Jahdawta Aisha Becker-Burrowes For example we don’t support patrons being ‘pat down’ at our events because we are not promoting violence we are promoting spirituality. This hostile environment and perception is not some place we even want to dwell or support. Quite frankly I would be apprehensive about going into a Club that I have to be searched for my own safety and safety of other patrons, I wouldn't feel welcome. Yes I know we are dealing with the public, but I still think alot lies with what is at the heart of your promotion. The Slack Clubs in Pioneer Square is closed down and rightfully so those reggae promoters have fade out of the scene, because the fans have other options. Would I search you if you are coming to my home or sanctuary or family gathering, I invited you to come forward and check out.
This value is represented and projected in our advertisement and mission. We are not into the ‘hype’ or opportunity of reggae music which create these unsavory elements. We take pride in emphasizing and projecting the educational and cultural roots of our Diaspora. We do not promote for entertainment, we are not ‘minstrels’ and ‘rock stars’. We are grass roots activists who promote Rastafari livity for community empowerment, we don't perceive no competition, as a matter of fact we encourage more reggae promoters, artists and fans to continue to support all reggae music, from the market place of idea...truth will emerge.

Strenghten your minds, we living in serious times, such a mysterious time....we living in serious times”, Dezarie, ‘Gracious Mama Africa’ track 4. Dezarie on the road with a serious mission.
Seattle Massive from what I witnessed two Saturday nights streamed from the World beat Cultural Center, San Diego, California. I cannot wait to see what the Roots Empress from St. Croix will unfold in Seattle at Studio 7 on Saturday, April 26th. Her news songs are thought provoking as she chant and sing about current affairs that really is like History...as they say, “The more things change, they more they remain the same”. However, Sista Dezarie is articulating a Militant stance all the way with a powerful voice.
The musicality of the backing band which includes, Ron Benjamin on Bass and keyboard, Ras L on Bass and keyboards as they switched and weaved this Karmic rhythm section around the Empress as the Drum and Guitar lick heavy reverb sounds. I know the Seattle massive is in for a rare threat and the only preview Act that can suffice this big energy is the sacred Nyabinghi drums which will open the event for Jah Breeze Reggae Production.
Come forward Seattle and bring your conscious ability and your dancing shoes because this St. Croix 100% Roots Reggae will create a sacred vibes of trance rhythmic qualities.....tune in if you are listening or even open to a compassionate scene.
Dezarie performing in Seattle at Ibex Cafe with Jah Breeze he promoter of the show and Blackheart man in the audience, photocredits to Orin Henselyn “You do not know, if your friend is an enemy or a friend.......right now things are hectic, so who is serious or playing tricks ....keep a firm meditation don;’t stop for nothing foolish....keep your heart pure and strong...let your God self be establish”.....STRENGHTEN YOUR MIND. WE LIVING IN SERIOUS TIME(Dezarie's lyrics)

Dezarie is a singer of unrivaled abilities. Her mesmerizing soothing vocals counteract with sharp, caustic and forcefull chants to create a sound that resonates on all wavelengths. The strength of her convictions and her sense of purpose manifests itself in deep and powerful lyrics.(comments in this paragraph credited to VIREGGAE and the African Roots Lab)

"Eaze The Pain"
Melody & Lyrics by Dezarie Produced & Performed by Ron Benjamin

The band line up will be:
Dezarie - Lead Vocals
Ron Benjamin - Bass
Dean Pond - Drums
Ras L - Keyboards
Edmund Fieulleteau - Guitar

WELL MASSIVE YOU KNOW THE GIDDEON IS ON WITH THESE PLAYERS OF INSTRUMENTS---IT WILL BE A JOYFUL NOISE

Roots empress Dezarie has blessed the reggae community with the deliverance of her newest recording "Gracious Mama Africa". Released on the Afrikan Roots Lab record label, this album emerges from the seeds planted on her amazing debut album of 2001 "FYA".

Gracious Mama Africa transports the incredible voice of Dezarie to a whole new level - the highest heights. Her foundation is firmly established in songs such as "Travelers" and the title track. The brilliance and clarity of Dezarie's voice is reverently unveiled on "Exhalt". Gracious Mama Africa abounds with pleas for social justice and racial equality with selections like "Poverty", "Strengthen Your Mind" and "Justice".

But to this listener, the strength and power of Dezarie is most strikingly displayed in her condemnation of so-called civilization. "Gone Down", "Not One Penny", "Law Fe De Outlaw", "Slew Dem An Done" and "Judgment Come" all deliver conscious punches that penetrate the soul.

"Do what you want, wheresoever you please. Bombing Vieques, yes your bombing the seas. Lock up anyone that was opposing. Speaking against the nonsense that you were doing. But babylon you gone down, you gone down. Babylon funeral, you gone down." - Dezarie

After receiving Atlanta's "Best New Female Reggae Artist" award in 2001, Dezarie returned to her native island of St. Croix. Since that time, she has been working closely with Midnite, the players of instruments for "Gracious Mama Africa". Midnite's trademark sound is fully displayed on this album. Momentous bass lines from Phillip Merchant, classic one-drop from Dion Hopkins and the bubbling of Ron Benjamin on keyboards prevail throughout, accentuated by Abijah's charismatic guitar playing.

From the excellent overdubs of Dezarie's voice to the flying symbols on "Slew Dem" it is evident that Ron Benjamin worked tirelessly in the production and mixing of this album. The fruits of this labour are eloquently displayed on Gracious Mama Africa which is sure to be one of the best roots albums of 2003.(review credits IReggae)

It was almost a year ago that Midnite trodded through the Pugeot Sound for Jah Breeze Reggae. This time they are coming forward again on March 02, 2008 at Studio 7. On behalf of our sponsors SeattleReggae and Information Processing Services I would like to thanks all the loyal Midnite fans who are purchasing their advanced tickets and coming forward time and time again to show these brothers from St. Croix Pure Love. This event is a community grass roots events spearheaded by three Rasta brothers who together they call themselves Tri-Unity. Their mission is to support conscious gatherings that elevate Rastafari Philosophy and Ideology through, Word, Sound and Power.

We are humble brothers.... We give itinual thanks and praises to the Most High, Emperor Haile Selassie I and we look forward to seeing you at the 100% Roots Reggae from St. Croix with Midnite. Spread the word to all humble souls.....LOVE!!!!!!!Midnite show March 2 ilahbrate 114th Anniversary of the Battle of Adwa March 02, 1896

Midnite supporting Jah Breeze Reggae at Studio 7, March 02, 2008, photocredits Orin Henselyn Midnite releases a brand new cd entitled, "Maschaana"; it is a Midnite Ras L Production like some of their previous cds. I&I Love this cd....it is pure roots, lyrical fyah chant by Vaughn Benjamin while Ras L 'Blakka Soundz' with the heavy bass lines. But 'Maschaana' has stronger vibes....it is cutting edge and has full reverbs..at times it is heavy dub giving the music time to breath. Vaughn Benjamin also exhibit crafty wordsmithing. Keep the Buddha Bloom rising high, All Praises due to the Most High Emperor Selassie I, JAH RASTAFARI!!!! Also Dezarie the Roots Empress out of St. Croix just release another new cd called, "Eaze Pain" with a hotta title track called "Real Love"...I keep playing the MP3 version over and over just waiting for my full promoitional copy from the Rastafaria Camp.....DEZARIE WILL BE AT STUDIO 7 ON SATURDAY, APRIL 26TH....ANOTHER JAH BREEZE REGGAE PRODUCTION.

So 'wha a gwaan' with the Midnite promotion...
Everyone is so cooperative and receptive in supporting this conscious movement that we have to give Jah Rastafari the glory. We are humble 'enuff' to know that it is not of our doing that this mission is manifesting vangloriously, all credits have to go to the Midnite Fans who have decided for themselves to leave the 'reggae hype' behind and focus on the roots...but most specifically on the rennaissance---100% roots reggae coming out of St. Croix. This is evident by the advance tickets flying out fast and furious. this show will sell out like the last Midnite show. I hate to turn loyal Midnite fans away at the door because their is no standing room. So to avoid this inconvenience I would urge you to get your tickets right away. There are several tickets outlet locations listed below....'go deh' and pick up your tickets. This is one Midnite show you don't want to miss...... ..."Time do not start counting until from MIDNITE". Those who are in the know would have the overstanding to realize that this band defies all barriers. Midnite is not only changing music they are changing culture. Like Bob Marley and the Wailers, the Midnite band is a cut above the rest, I have already put them in the Archives of not only reggae music but all current popular music..., as Vaughn said so eloquently in our interview, that "Hip-Hop want the youths dem brains, BET want the youths dem brains, C-Span wants the youths dem brain ... but only one man have the youths dem brain inna dis time and that man is Emperor Selassie I, Jah Rastafari...there is no deny..Vaughn Benjamin's lyrics articulates the old traditions with the new values and concept of all people not only the Rastas. So conscious people check for Midnite 100% Roots Reggae anytime, anywhere or anyplace.................

Jah Breeze chanting to the 'Rasta Awake ARMY was born Fritzmaurice Williams and raised in St. Croix, Virgin Island. At the age of five he began his musical journey in the youth choir at the church his family attended. Little did he know that he was laying the foundation for what would become a very promising musical career.

Determined to explore a variety of musical styles, he played the Saxophone, became a member in a jazz band and sang in various local bands. Inspired and influenced by artistes such as Nat King Cole, Dennis Brown and Freddie McGregor, ARMY couldn't go wrong.

The Greats all played their part in shaping this well-rounded singer. He later migrated to the United States and attended New York's School of the Performing Arts. After High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, and attended military tech school. Later he trained and worked in the HVAC industry. But music soon found its way back into his life in a big way.

After completing his education and venturing off to pursue other goals, he went back home to where it all began: The Virgin Islands. He began singing background vocals in the Frontline Band and various other bands. His friend, Jahole, who can be heard on "Yesterday's News", became his mentor and showed him the rigmarole of the music while performing with various reggae bands.

When the time was right, ARMY took his place as lead singer of the X Factor Band, a promising band making their mark in the Virgin Islands. It wasn't long before the word was out about the obvious talent ARMY and X Factor had to offer. Then came Abdul Williams, CEO of Dub Rise Records, Inc. and Dean Pond of DSP Music who had teamed up earlier to form a winning partnership in ARMY. They quickly saw the potential in ARMY and without any reservations, signed him to the label.

Everton Blender acknowledging Jah Breeze in the Audience, photocredits Orin Henselyn ARMY music is clear and he believes we are mutually dependent on each other. "I want to send positive universal message to people through my music, without the commercialism we see so much today" he said pointedly. He accomplishes this with great ease and feels he has only scratch the surface of what he plans to contribute to the world of music.....he plans to continue writing songs and would like to study the Piano.

With a solid foundation of tunes under his belt, Army embarked on the recording of his highly anticipated third album, "Rasta Awake" which is largely produced by legendary guitarist and multi-insturmentalist Tuff Lion.

"Rasta Awake" is a masterpiece of all-live roots reggae instrumentation. The 13 tracks on the album capture Army at previously unseen creative heights. His poetic songwriting challenges and connects with the listener in a way that few other songwriters are able. Army's voice--while influenced by such artists as Nat King Cole, Dennis Brown and Reddie McGregor-is unique in all of contemporary reggae with its amazing ability to be both deeply soothing and intensely energizing. With a voice as invigorating and free as the wind, and with word sound utterances that penetrate hearts and minds, Army's mission is clear. He is firmly committed to using his music as a weapon in the war for spiritual renewal and justice for all peoples.

As Army explains: "I want to send positive universal messages to people through my music, without the commercialism we see so much today....For me the music is a healing. I fell that the music healed me. took me to places where I could have not necessarily have been without it. I also feel that if someone could walk away with some type of healing, (that) they could be touched in some kind of way, they could associate themselves with some aspect of the music and then say 'wow', maybe I'll make it after all. If I could shine some light some how, I would know that I have done something."

Army continues to do something special for all those who hear this unique and much needed voice.

ANCIENT KING, born Wendell Francois, hails from St. Croix in the Virgin Islands. In 2002, he was featured on I Grade Records' acclaimed compilation, 'Weep Not'(recording under the name Willow). Tunes like "Manage" and Ancient of Days" were well received by listeners, DJ's and reviewers around the world. Since that time, Ancient King has sharpened his craft through recording and stage show work in the Newport News, VA area with the King Lion Crew. He is know for his high energy stage performance and has shared the stage with many artists including Midnite, Dexarie, Yellowman and Capleton. Ancient King also released two songs on Indigo International's compilation album, 'The B Sides.'

On Ancient's first full-lenght release, 'Conquering Sound', he agian teams up with I Grade Records to create one of the most innovative albums by a conscious chanter in this current time. Like most of the messages in the VI's roots reggae movement, Ancient King's songs are firmly rooted in the traditions of Rastafari rebel music. The musical soundscapes provided by the I Grade production team consist of the thunderous bass lines, rock solid drums and rootsy guitars and keys for which I Grade is well know. Conquering Sound features guest appearances by Prince Pankhi, Empress Michel and Vaughn Benjamin of Midnite.

Bringing forth words of truth and a tongue of fyah, Ancient King blazes his own trail unlike any other chanter in modern reggae music. His powerful and unique delivery combines with intensely relevant lyrics that stand firm on principles of truth and right. One listen to Ancient King's gongs and it is clear that he takes very seriously and honorably the opportunity to share his word sound with the Nations.(credits I Grade Records)

ABOUT THE ETHIOPIAN CALENDAR: 13 MONTHS OF SUNSHINE AND JAH BREEZE BLOWINGMidnite Reggae Band in Seattle at Ibex Cafe

The calendars of the entire world are based on the work of the old Egyptian astronomers who discovered - as early as three to four thousand years BC - that the solar or sidereal year lasted slightly less than 365 ¼ days. However, it was left to the astronomers of the Alexandrian school to incorporate this knowledge into some sort of calendar; and it was these astronomers who also came up with the idea of leap years.

Subsequently, the Romans under Julius Caesar borrowed their reformed calendar from the Alexandrian science and adopted it to the western world. Then the Copts inherited this science as a right and built upon it themselves. In due course, the Copts handed this calendar, together with their method of computing the date of Easter, on to their descendant Church in Ethiopia. The Ethiopian year therefore has something in common with the western year, having been derived from the same source.

So much so that the Ethiopian calendar retains the old Egyptian system whereby the year was divided into twelve months of thirty days each plus one additional month of five days (six days in leap years). Ethiopian dates therefore, fall 7- 8 years behind western dates and have done so since early Christian times. This discrepancy results from differences between the Ethiopian Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church as to the date of the creation of the world.

Each Ethiopian year is dedicated to one of the four Evangelists according to the cycle: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. The year of St. Luke is Leap Year, and therefore always has six days in the thirteenth month of the Ethiopian calendar. (information from www.ethiopianmillenium.com)

However, none of the forces can stop the power of Midnite Reggae Band and their uprising to stay rootical and balance in Jah. I witness a news segment on Fox TV, the mainstream press and Vaughn and Ron was expressing the same way as when they reason with me. These brothers are true to their mission and no forces can prevent what Jah Rastafari has put together in his house. This was a purification session, a true thanksgiving.

Midnite in Seattle March 9, 2007 was incredibly successful given all the pseudo adversities and rumors the opponents try to perpetrate. But as authentic rastamen, we believe who Jah bless no man curse. Personally, I think Vaughn Benjamin is fully aware of this backbite and entitlement displayed by the over zealous exploiters.
The conscious ones don’t have to look far to find the message in his music and lyrics. This is why I can go on the Radio and conduct an entire philosophical reggae program using all subjects and lyrics from his music. For example if you review one of his latest release, called, “A Need” you would overstand the jest of what I am referring to in the opening paragraph.
Tuning into “A Need”, track 12 is a song entitle, “Airful” The songs describes his concern about how we deal with each other. He says dealing with each other, let’s be careful. For the violence and babylon brim up now is nearful. Business with each other let’s be careful. Loving one another. Principle and living of the Airful. Good instructions and future vision be Airful. The Ible(Bible) call money, talents... rob I&I of our knowledge, mass produce it and then cut we out.... cut themselves in; I have seen all your creations in a ruins. The upgrade is on the way, so you do have your doubts....there is always some little Black Body, creating money for all you...When dealing with each other let’s be careful, good instructions, implementation and future vision...be Airful...be mindful”.
Please note on this cd, Vaughn Benjamin played all the instruments, except for some tracks and collaborative production by Donel "Donny Dread" Connor. This is a different type of Midnite cd it doesn’t have the group effort or the Igrade rhythms their music is usually backed up with...this strictly Vaughn to the future...INFINITE....keep checking for more roots and culture from this man.

Seattle don't miss the healing by this wordsmith, photocredits Jah BreezeSpotlight on Midnite - A Star Rising By Adjua Dubb

We live in a world that accepts American hip-hop as authentic but American reggae as flaccid. Sort of like looking for french fries in Chinatown--sure you can find it, but it's not the best, so why bother? American reggae has had a hard time finding an international audience that deem their music as authentic and as real as Marley, Tosh, or Beenie Man. There are subtle yet reinforced reminders that only real reggae comes from Jamaica, and no other place has the ability to produce talent that competes with the homegrown originals of Jamaican music. The charts, DJs and journalists constantly remind us of whose riddim and whose song is #1 in Jamaica. The award shows always hone in on strictly Jamaican reggae artists and therefore omit a great market and talent that is out there, pumping out great reggae music just the same. The time has come, for the many who thought only good authentic reggae comes from Jamaica-- to bite their tongues.

"Time is not counted from daylight, but from Midnite"

As an avid listener of reggae music, I am certain and definite when I hear true reggae that is thought provoking, heartfelt, and just damn good. It has been said that not everyone can play reggae, and I truly agree with that--it takes a certain vibration and sensibility to get the rhythms and timing right. Many times American bands lack the complete formula to provide consistent and full music and this can leave audiences limp. After all, many average bands have to avert to Marley tunes in between their own to keep the momentum. There is a need to keep covers on their playlists or their albums. For once I have come across a band who uses no filler, no derivatives and no covers to create an original sound of their own, and the st.Croix-based Midnite is that band.

Midnite's founders are ñGaindeî Ron Benjamin, keyboardist and musical director and his brother, Vaughn Benjamin, lead vocalist and principle songwriter. Together they have created a musical entity that has transformed reggae music and how we think about it. St. Croix, in the US Virgin Islands, is not necessarily American, and not at all Jamaican, but close enough to both coasts that the influences of each land is apparent upon first listen. Midnite does not "try" to be a reggae band, but instead they succeed where many others have not and that is in their originality and their determination to stay true to roots music. It's a very daunting task to find in these days of overdubbing, hip-hop and dancehall remixes into practically every modern reggae song that you hear. Midnite's resilience shines in their music because they have designed their songs to be raw and rootsy.

The band has produced four solidly superb albums that showcase their ability to go toe to toe with the very best out of Jamaica. "Unpolished," "Ras Mek Peace (before Reverb without Delay)," "Jubilees of Zion," and their most recent offering "Seek Knowledge before Vengeance" & ñIntense Pressure (Dub)î are all very strong efforts.

Midnite's sound has many Jamaicans wondering what parish are they from, and if they are not from Jamaica, then how dem a do it? How did they capture reggae so profoundly? A lot of that detail comes through in Midnite's steadfastly strong lyrical content with smooth yet simplistic melodies. Their message is clearly Rastafarian, and their devotion to spreading that message is firm and musically inspirational. They delve deep into subjects that are specific to these times and can address the distinct social problems of today. To complete their formula, they encompass heavy use of drum and bass patterns that are - reminiscent of the 70s classic period keeping a harmonious weave in their music. As an avid listener, their music is refreshing.

The band spent roughly six years in Washington, DC, testing out their brand of reggae on whomever would listen, and before long, they had a consistent following that trekked wherever the band played. Their DC shows mirrored going to church--getting cleansed by their music in some of the raunchiest clubs. Most nights the clubs would overflow with people to the point of crowd control--sweat dripping, elbow pushing, and toe stepping. There was always a sincerity in their approach to please the audience, despite the struggles they were going through to break the mold. The regulars and non regulars alike would come just to hear the band, and often the crowd would be singing and dancing so much, they'd be begging for an encore before closing their set for the evening. Every night was like that and it became apparent to the band that in order for them to graduate to another level in this business they would have to leave DC.

In 1999, Midnite left DC to return to St. Croix. DC has not been the same since--no other band has come on the scene to replace or fill their shoes; it became apparent to the reggae regulars that we had witnessed a star rising. And as frequenters of their shows, their absence left a deep impact on the reggae scene here. It's not often talent comes along and you're able to spot the essence of stardom when it appears.

Fast forward to 2002 and Midnite has successfully produced their third and fourth & Fifth album "Jubilees of Zion" and "Seek Knowledge before Vengeanceî & ñIntense Pressure." They have regrouped their promotion and marketing departments and are now re-introducing themselves to the larger world. No longer a "local" talent, they are a God-given talent that will go wherever the Most High will carry them. The band has been able to transcend to this level through sheer word of mouth, for their music speaks for itself.

Midnite will embark on a 2004 West Coast Tour starting Feb 5th in honor of Bob MarleyÍs Birthday & Black History month. Check the Midnite official web site, for more information. *Courtesy Jahworks.org www.midniteband.com

(Review of Midnite for Amazon.com by Achis in Kingston, Jamaica Dec 2oo6)This discussion of modern roots reggae music can go no deeper than one or two paragraphs without some mention of the almost disturbingly wicked Midnite Band. Over the past 15 years, the St. Croix native band has built not only themselves, but the entire Virgin Island reggae scene into a burgeoning reggae juggernaut. The band STAYS on tour constantly, throughout the year, performing at sold out venues large and small alike and carrying some of the purest form of roots reggae available anywhere. And while they may ultimately lack mainstream exposure (of course) or even a heavy amount of support here in Jamaica, their peers are the ones who give them their ultimate respect as several well known Jamaican reggae artists admit to spinning Midnite constantly.

Ron and Midnite love to play at Ibex Ethiopian Cafe, photocredits Jah Breeze The band, led by brothers Benjamin, Vaughn- lead singer and and songwriter and Ron- Keyboards. Has built its reputation all over the Western Hemisphere by performing from coast to coast any and everywhere it was wanted. Originally establishing itself as a force on the east coast reggae scene in tiny Washington DC venues, the band now is a favorite and constant fixture on the west coast as well, routinely performing at the roaming festivals and events to sold out audiences from all over the country! The reason? Perhaps greater than any other single entity in reggae music today, Midnite has been able to string together COMPLETE consciousness without an ever so slight as a waver. The band has also opened doors for many VI artists literally and figuratively. As it stays on the road so frequently, the 'downtime' is used to promote and produce for wicked VI artists such as Dezarie, Ikahba Stone, NiyoRah and Danny I.

While their music has often been described as unusual (and downright odd) Midnite's soul mission is singing for His Imperial Majesty. Vaughn Benjamin's bag of lyrics is about as deep as anyone's making music today, so deep it is that in early 2006, he released a book of poetry and even embarked on a spoken word tour for that! Benjamin's style of CHANTING is so completely simple that its unique. He just chants! Sometimes in a mumbling style, but if you really listen to the words, you will undoubtedly be amazed.

This album, a 'collaboration' of sorts between the dominant band of the VI, Midnite, and the dominant label, I-Grade Records, is one of 3 in 2006 alone! They keep a Damian Marley like touring schedule and a Sizzla like recording schedule. Jah Grid, like most of Midnite's work is very strong. And while I certainly wouldn't recommend it to the new fans (its entirely too deep)(newer fans should pick up Ras Mek Peace or Nemozian Rasta), older fans of the band will definitely rate this album amongst the group's finest. It is definitely more veiled than other releases (which is saying a great deal as most of their releases can be described as such) but this album especially.

The best tune is probably the opener, the sick sick Enter which almosts flows like a lesson. Definitely want to have prior knowledge of whats going on in the world to fully grasp the meaning of the tune which Vaughn flows so easy, it almost sounds like he's making it up as he goes along (and he just might be).

Besides that, check the wicked My Joy, which i first noticed because it flows along the same riddim which backed NiyoRah and Pressure's MASSIVE Afrikan Chant tune from Niyo's most recent album Purification Session. My Joy is, curiously, a more aggressive track than most of the tracks on the album and it stands out to a great degree. Also standing out is the lyrically SUPERB Kin Dread. The song is a unifying tune against babylon, which isnt rare at all, but what is unique is the brilliant way Vaughn builds the lyrics building and making small points throughout the entire tune.

Having been a fan of the band for awhile as I mentioned I've kind of made a point to take awhile to listen to the entire album SEVERAL times before making a judgement as to its worth. Midnite's style is much of an acquired taste (which I'm STILL working on acquiring, my favorite Midnite album, Nemozian Rasta took nearly a year to grow on me), but Jah Grid, might be even deeper than that gem of an album.

Other highlight tracks include one of the most melodic tracks you'll ever hear from Vaughn, the wicked Before I Lose My Strength, the song is a heavy heavy praising tune which maybe has the best and most dynamic hook on the entire album as Benjamin actually ups the voice to a near full on SINGING style. Check the ultra cryptic YHWH to be both entertained and confused at the same time: "choose before a place where no choices be, Haile Selassie spoke of these issues in specificity!". Just typical Vaughn Benjamin style giving you just enough to keep you interested and leaving you to figure the rest!

I also have to recommend one of my favorite tunes altogether from the group, Royal Habits! Royal Habits is well well strong and preaches on how one should keep oneself and maintain oneself. The combination here features the unknown Jah Rubal, a bredrin of Midnite's who sounds a little like JA dj, Determine. Definitely check out Third Eye, the song on which he appears.

Overall, I'm rather cautiously recommending Jah Grid for Midnite fans. Stay far and far away from the album should you be a recent fan of the group for at least 5-6 years (but definitely make a note to come back to it at sometime in the future)! Midnite's vibes are not for everyone, I think even perhaps the Benjamin's themselves would admit that (although you wouldnt know that based on their recording and release schedules) but if you are truly able to appreciate their vibes consider yourself lucky and amongst the special chosen few. I have a friend down here who is a producer and he probably said it best when describing Midnite's vibe: "Somewhere Bob just asked Peter if he had that new Midnite". Do you? Maybe you should.

Update about the Midnite gathering at Ibex Ethiopian Café on Friday, March 9, 2007. So far, tickets are going fast and furious, mostly from fans as far away, as Spokane, Vashon, Olympia, Bellingham etc. We just want to ensure that tickets are available for the Seattle massive who don’t have to make such a far trod to get to the thanksgiving gathering. The Ibex is a very small intimate space of approx 250 capacity so we want to make sure fans have access to advance tickets at $20 a ticket online at www.mindfulmarket.com. It will be $25 at the doors the day of the show and I hate to hear ‘bawling’ because people didn’t take advantage of the presale discount.

Try to ignore all the excuses. Let’s ask ourselves, what would our founding fathers; Marcus Garvey and Bob Marley do? When faced with these pseudo adversities. They will tell the masses to view the inconvenience as development and progress to come in the future. We need to walk our talk and truth and rights will prevail. Midnite music is an example of this determination and Rasta Unity, so let’s come together in community and spread the love and harmony through self reliance and tenacity.

Remember Seattle represents the Pioneer spirit, the ability to create your own path, stepping into the light with Midnite on March 9th is the only option for the righteous mind. Be mindful by purchasing your advance tickets today at www.mindfulmarket.com and take the first step to overcoming the pseudo adversity and parking challenges the sheep mentality create to block Rastaman livity.

What you can do as an individual to support Midnite vibes and ensure the message of the wordsmith get far and wide...'block a sound'(spread the word) amongst your peer and associates, car pool to the event or take a cab and save gas while supporting the Ethiopian Franchise of the Yellow cab company, let's just make an effort to truly live mindfully, while supporting our people globally.

JB the singer from Mystic Vision displaying pure Fyal, photocredits Crystal Shelton ON FRIDAY MARCH 9, THE IBEX CAFE will be elevated over all the construction taking place for the Seattle Light Rail line that will be installed in the Rainier Valley area. It is in the wake of all this positive and progressive development for our community that Vaughn Benjamin and Midnite enter into the 'scheme of things'. Midnite has been performing at this venue from the very beginning of my promotion with them. They love the ambience of this venue and so does the fans who also come to enjoy the best Ethiopian Cuisine in Seattle. Ibex is like Ethiopia which we praise and glorify as our Uthopia, therefore we couldn't get anymore impeccable with our message and our truths.

The Midnite Band haven't been touring for a while, they have been busy recording new music, supporting other artists, and working on solo projects. However the brothers, Vaughn and Ron have been to Seattle independently recently as 6 months ago to do works with Jah Breeze Promotion. Ron Benjamin the director and keyboardist for Midnite came with Dezarie at the Ibex Cafe and then Vaughn Benjamin came with his spoken word tour to the University of Washington, Ethnic Cultural Theatre.

This time they are opening up big gates to the Northwest, they are heading into Vancouver, Canada for the first time. Many Vancouver fans coming to the Seattle shows requested that this stop be included on the Northwest tour and they were happy to accommodate.

Dre the singer from Mystic Vision displaying a deep vibe, photocredits Crystal Shelton However, the big surprise of the tour is that this time they will be touring only in the Northwest with Mystic Vision as their opening band. Mystic Vision have recorded with Vaughn on the Midnite cd, 'Currant' and the recent Midnite release, title, 'Mystic Vision'. Mystic Vision is from New Mexico and has to be serious in their conviction to walk their truths for Vaughn and Midnite to endorse and promote them. Especially, since I know how meticulous and cautious, Ron Benjamin is regarding music and Rastafari principles.

This is exciting news for the Seattle roots reggae massive, it exhibits Rastas acceptance of all people regardless of race, color or creed......so eventhough the message is about the struggle and resistance of the Blackheart man, the echo have universal appeal and many others can identify and articulate for our cause and their cause as well, if they receive the 'mystic vision' to live up go deh..www.mysticvisionmusic.com for more information regarding this opening band. This is their mission/vision statement:

"Our mission is to bring truth to the world as it is shown to us through the lessons and experiences of life. We strive for international morality and world citizenship realizing that our pursuits are empowered by inner forces that drive all creations. The music is the means by which we relate our truth and reverberate it throughout the universe. Blessed are all singers , players, and dancers. We shall use music to crush these walls of Jericho...... Our world cries out for change. She spins while humanity loses control of the lower self and propels themselves into destructive behaviour. The irrationality must stop. Every individual has an obligation to make a positive change in their outlooks upon our present world situation. Please open your hearts and minds to your roles in what is so necessary to our well-being."

Seattle massive, get ready to witness a gathering like no other in the history of reggae music in the region in a while. However, because there is raspect in my heart and community, I must say big up to Culture Yard and Diamond Life for holding it down while I chill in the mountains enjoying the wildlife and creating original music in the woods. This show represents reggae music at its finest, you done know how Jah Breeze takes no freeze when he is representing roots and culture with ease. This show will definitely be sold out. For ticket information go deh to the lion heart to purchase tickets online from Mindfulmarket.com.

However if you miss it in Seattle, you would want to grab your passport and head on into to Vancouver, Canada the next nite, because Midnite will be spreading the love to the Canadians for the first time on their own turf. This way my friends and fans don't have to travel all the way to Seattle. Big Up to Alexandria for her persistence, support and request to connect to the right promoters to host Midnite in Canada. We are building bridges internationally in community and harmony.

“Until the lions become their own historians, tales of the hunted will always glorify the Hunters…….let’s go hunt….Rasta nah go be discreet, when there is time to gate keep.

Vaughn Benjamin, Jah Rubal and Sabbattical Ahdah run it redda at the Koll Pekude spoken words tour at the University of Washington.

Stay tune in for more pictures and vibration and review from the reasoning session. I have hosted and promoted, the African Showboys from Ghana, I-Grade Summer Tour 2005 and Tony Rebel/Queen Ifrica along with the Rebel Roots Krew. These are all quality artists and their shows were fantastic, except for the fact that they were not high attendance as was expected at the shows. They are many factors which contributed to this lack of attendance, but I can assure you, my people, that from a promotional stand point I have done all I can as a grass roots rasta promoter to bring quality roots and culture shows to Seattle. I love supporting everyone when they are doing it with integrity. It show a crucial strenght.

I sincerely hope that in the future, you support the mission to put the Rasta Sabbattical Ahdah and son Lej Sabbattical strap to his chest, performing life with Jah Breeze on Drumkit and David on Bass, Dawit on keyboards and Victor on percussion at Vaughn Spoken Word performance at the University of Washington. Photocredits Kathryn Hightower from the diapora, back in their rightful position as defender of the faith, because it is about empowerment....."Until the Lions become their own historians, tales of the hunted would only glory the Hunters". Unlike the Hunters, I am not doing this for fame or fortune, but I do know that money helps the cause. I do believe now that this is an ordained call to put the Rastas as business men/women to take our music, history, and culture to a different level. I know some breddrens and sistrens feel intimidated and threaten when some Rasta artists, expresses these sentiments. I am not a racists, nor a segregationists, because I know we are all from one common ancestor. But in this present reality some people have more priviledges and capital and they will use it to take over anything and everything. I am a human racists who is advocating for the authentic Rastas and people from the diaspora to get more involved in the promotion and support of the reggae industry from a Rastafian ideology. We need to be represented in the business and management aspect of our industry, instead of only being singers and players of instruments. A good example of what I am talking about is Tony Rebel Salute Festival where Tony Rebel embarked on producing his own festival synonymous to Reggae Sumfest/Splash, but yet quite different in their promotional philosophy. I gave thanks that my priviledges as a struggler and a decendant of the Middle passage experience have lead me to some important Rasta artists and links to many more rastacentric networks that share the same vision I am articulating.Jah Breeze performing on Steel Drum with Afro-Cuban percussionist Victor at Vaughn Benjamin's Spoken Word Event It is all "One Love", but it have to begin with you and yours first before you can truly extend it to anyone else. Remember people please don't misconstrue the message, I have support and love from people and allies who are of different race or ethnic group than me, to them I express my gratitude and big raspect due.

First off I must thank Studio Seven and Staff for providing a home and support for me to promote my shows with confidence, next I want to thank Dynasty Sound System who I can always call up to support me DJing the shows, without looking for pay, as they say,"We want to support your mission," and I will support theirs regardless of race, color or creed. Next I want to thank my friends for not thinking I am crazy or demonizing my vision for black empowerment, since white empowerment and priveledge is the order of the day, even in the reggae industry which originated from the black experience. However this is a sensitive issue for many to discuss openly. I support everyone doing the reggae but I would like to see more people from the culture or I should say ethnic origin from which the Rasta culture derived getting involve in the business aspect. I know economics is a big factor, but I trust we can overcome anything if we put our minds to it. Our ancestors overcame many atrocities, so can this generation. I am talking collectively, every ethnic group has had their share of struggles given the immigrant history in this country and the world at large, but we need to collaborate our support for a bigger cause, not just individual gains.

Check it out people, it is Rasta for real....just don't slay the messenjah, people. Don't try to fight me or backbite me with the spiritual wickedness in high and low places. All my predecessors had this challenge some were even misquoted, misconceived and murdered when they try to express and articulate their vestiges of Rastafari ideology or liberation theology....stay tune for more higher reasoning with Jah Breeze. Thanks Tony Rebel for your encouragement and words of wisdom....I will take it with me into Jah's Kingdom. As Tony says, "If Jah is standing by my side then why should I be afraid of the pestilence that crawleth by night. Me nah leave my ancient border, check for Midnite, September 6th at the StudioSeven. For the people who have the conscious intentions and supported my shows without asking for discount or looking to scandal my name and discredit my reputation, may Jah bless you in everything you endeavor to do to help Rasta in the struggle of good over evil, and for those who do not have good intentions, may Jah guide you too. Who Jah bless no man curse.Tony Rebel,If Jah is standing by my side, image copyrighted by Jah Breeze Grraphics Thanks to Sista Sheba from Adawa for your constant support, thanks to various members of the Ethiopian community for coming out to support the show, and for those who came from Ellensburg and the ticket give away winners from the various radio stations. Special RAW big up to Rankin Mark and the station manager from KBCS for assisting with radio promotion such as on air interviews with the various artists. Big up the reggae hotline for advertising my Tony Rebel show, as well as all the merchants and ticket outlets who posted the flyers and handbills in their establishments

Big thanks to my daughters, Natasha, Lynne(Tasha's best friend), Camy and Aisha who are steadfast in holding the doors and covering my back at the shows, I feel bless to have my family involve in this cause to further our culture. We are in it for life, like they say the family that promote together, stays together. There were so many members from the community who came to both shows, much blessings for your support and I hope you can support these artists works far and wide. Tony Rebel and Queen Ifrica will be in Bellingham tonite July 31 with the Western Sound System Federation, then they will appear on Reggae on The River the Weekend of August 5-6-7. Go out and support the festival. Also I would recommend you start making plans for Rebel Salute Festival in Jamaica which is usually around the first of the year. Jamaica no problem, man

THE I-GRADE ARTISTS BLEW THROUGH SEATTLE LIKE A STORM
ON JULY 28, 2005 AT STUDIO SEVEN IN SODO DISTRICT

Igrade artist Abja will be performing July 28th at StudioSeven in SeattleArmy, NiyoRAh,Abja,Ancient King,Aba Shaka and the Black Foot Krew introduced Seattle to the roots and culture of St. Croix, the blend of roots music Midnite have made popular throughout the reggae industry. The only difference in the styles is that with the introduction of Ancient King and NiyoRah the lyrics are more firery. While Army the veteran invoked his cool relaxing laid back style, and Abja flowed through with his popular songs. Abja was impressed that some of the Seattle massive knew the lyrics to his songs. As for the Black Foot band they were steady as ever, I was very impressed with the drummer, who made my drumset spoke in tones I have never heard before.

Of course, Tippy on keyboards who has been the producer of I-Grade music and represented on many of Midnite albums. These collaboration are crucial to the music. Tuff Lion on guitar have been working with Army on his latest cd, "Rasta Awake," check for it in your record stores, because as Army continues,"there is no time to sleep, the earth is your school a steady vigil/vision you have to keep, Rasta Awake".

The show was clearly an awakening experience for me, as I have expressed previously, I know these artists are talented and they present quality music, so I hope to see them build a strong following like Midnite. I know they are working hard on planting the seed, soon come harvest time. So massive when you see I-Grade rolling into your town please be ready to go out and support more quality roots music from St. Croix. As for Jah Jah Breeze, you done know he takes no freeze, dem can't get me out...As Bob would say, "dem a tired for see me face, can't get me out of the race..oh lawd, it is such a big disgrace.."

Igrade artist Army will be performing July 28th at StudioSeven in Seattle
